Growing in the Love of God
The Upper Wylye Valley Team - Foodbank
The Warminster & District Foodbank has continued to support those in our community who have found themselves in crisis during 2013. Due to changes in the benefits system, there has been a 30% increase in the call for Foodbank support in the last twelve months. Benefits can take about eight weeks to come through and now, when circumstances change, the benefits system stops immediately, there is no safety net in place.
There are five Trustees of the Warminster & District Foodbank, three volunteers now form the Management Team and approximately fifty five volunteers help to run the Foodbank Centre which is now open three mornings each week. Seventy registered Distributors allocate vouchers to those in need.
Last year, between April 2013 to the end of January 2014, 2,048 people were fed, 900 of whom were children.
The Upper Wylye Valley Team of Churches and village schools have donated a total of 598.6kgs of food in 2013. On behalf of those who have found themselves in crisis, the Warminster & District Foodbank would like to thank all those who have so generously donated food to support this vital, local charity.
